Tritonic backed to impress

Tritonic could enhance his Triumph Hurdle claims at Kempton on Saturday, with co-owner Max McNeill hopeful of a bold showing from his talented juvenile hurdler.

A classy Flat performer, Tritonic was rated 99 on the level and finished second in last summer’s Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot.

He has that lethal turn of foot and Ascot showed he's got that gear.

He made a smooth transition to jumps for McNeill and co-owner Ian Dale, winning his debut over hurdles at Ascot last month for trainer Alan King.

He stayed on stoutly up the Ascot home straight under Adrian Heskin to beat Casa Loupi by a length, a performance that saw him enter the Triumph Hurdle picture at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.

A win on Saturday in either the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle or against his elders in the Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle would likely see him become the shortest-priced British-trained contender for the Triumph.

McNeill said: "He's very well, the reports are very positive. He wasn't fully revved last time and I thought we'd have to settle for second as the horse took a blow. But Adrian (Heskin) saved him up for the finish and felt confident he'd always win.

"Hopefully, we will see more from him on Saturday. Adrian schooled him last Monday and he jumped beautifully, we couldn't be happier.

"He has that lethal turn of foot and Ascot showed he's got that gear, but what I liked about him was his will to win.

"We've had horses that are really talented, but question how badly they want it, but I was really impressed with his attitude at Ascot."
